We start with a visit to the world under a lava field where you get the chance to witness how the volcanoes created Iceland. Depending on the season we either visit Gjábakkahellir or Leiðarendi cave. This is an amazing hike through an ancient underground lava tube.
After the hike we drive onwards to Gullfoss, the undisputed queen of Icelandic waterfalls. Gullfoss is truly a great sight with water rushing down three steps of lava layers exhibiting breathtaking power and grandeur. After a short lunch stop we head to the geothermal area of Geysir, home of the erupting hot spring. Come and watch the heated water gurgle, bubble, and escape the ground with enormous force up to 25 meters high.
Our last stop will be the famous Þingvellir National Park (en. Parliament Fields). Þingvellir is a UNESCO world heritage site and the original birthplace of the oldest existing parliament in the world. It is also the place where the tectonic plates of America and Europe meet with a clearly visible rift valley. We will learn about the Vikings and their meetings here as well as the geological forces of nature From the national park. After going through all of these must sees of Iceland, we have a short drive back to Reykjavík.
This day tour has it all; stunning natural beauty, interesting history, amazing geological wonders and a great caving adventure!
